EMBRYO DONATION PROGRAMME

Couples who need donated embryos are those in which both partners have impaired fertility. The wife may be unable to produce eggs because of previous surgery, premature menopause or genetic disease. The husband may be unable to produce sperm or have a severe sperm problem. Alternatively, the couple may carry some hereditary disease.

The embryos are usually donated by couples who have had IVF or ICSI treatments, completed their families and have spare embryos in storage at Victory A.R.T. Laboratories. The characteristics of the Embryo Donors are recorded. These characteristics are used for matching with the Recipient Couple if possible.

After the couple have been seen by the medical staff and provisionally accepted into the embryo donation programme, it is essential that they receive independent counseling before they are finally accepted.
